Product Description Hybrid Super Zoom Camera FZ100 - For both Still and Full-HD Motion Pictures and High-speed Response----The DMC-FZ100 features a 25mm wide-angle 24x optical zoom f/2.8-5.2 LEICA DC VARIO-ELMARIT lens. The 25mm wide-angle lens has about twice the shooting area of the standard 35mm lens. The powerful 24x optical zoom can be used both in still and motion picture recording. The Extra Optical Zoom function uses the center part of the MOS sensor to extend this 24x zoom ratio to powerful 50.6x zoom at a resolution of 3-megapixel or less in still picture recording.----The DMC-FZ100 can record 1920 x 1080 full-HD movie of 60i (NTSC) / 50i (PAL) in AVCHD with high sound quality of Dolby Digital Stereo Creator. In the Creative Movie Mode the shutter speed and aperture can be adjusted. The iA Mode can also be activated in motion picture recording. In addition the DMC-FZ100 can record high-speed movie at 220fps in QVGA size. When the DMC-FZ100 is connected to a Panasonic VIERA via an optional mini HDMI cable the TVs remote control unit can be used to enjoy playing back with greater convenience.----To realize the full-HD movie recording the 14.1-megapixel MOS sensor is developed for the DMC-FZ100. It enables the DMC-FZ100 to shoot 11 fps / 5 fps with continuous AF in 14-megapixel full resolution and 60 fps in approx. 3.5-megapixel resolution. The frame rate AF setting and the recording resolution can be easily selected with a dedicated button on the top of the camera. The Venus Engine FHD featuring Intelligent Resolution technology and 32x Intelligent Zoom is also incorporated in the DMC-FZ100.----The iA Mode is advanced with the Motion Deblur Mode by updating the Intelligent ISO Control and Intelligent Exposure to gain shutter speed. | Customer Reviews: Stunning August 17, 2010 Mr. M. Henze (Torquay) 24 out of 27 found this review helpful
Well I'll keep this brief as I want to get back to the camera.
I'll start by saying that I'm a completely amateur photographer and I've only had the camera a few hours, but already I know I've made the right choice.
Camera itself is typically high quality panasonic build.
Charged up the battery...shoved in the memory card, set the camera to ia (intelligent auto) setting and started snapping away randomly experimenting with indoor, outdoor.macro, zoom and video modes....can honestly say that I am blown away by the results!!
Every shot was perfectly in focus even at full 24x zoom....and even at 24x zoom none of the pics was blurred and that was hand held shots.
Colours are excellent and some of the most natural I have seen
Video quality is first class...it's not perfect as the focus can be caught out if you pan too quickly and the zoom mechanism can just be heard, but it doesn't spoil the film at all and if you were filming with a bit of noise in the background you wouldn't hear the mechanism at all.The sound from the stereo mics is superb and crystal clear picking up every sound around.
I'm sure there's a lot more I could say about this high quality camera, but as I said at the beginning I'm a complete novice and don't want to make a fool of myself by talking about things I don't understand...yet!
I rate this camera highly and would say it is perfect for people like me who want a camera that does everything (brilliantly) for them, but who might want to experiment with the full manual override settings.
I would say this is a perfect camera for the complete novice as on auto setting it is ridiculously easy to use....and I don't think many professional photographers would be too disappointed in the results from this fabulous camera.
Yes,it is a bit expensive compared with some cameras of this type, but I would say it's worth every penny.
GET 1 :-) August 22, 2010 G. Morgan (UK) 10 out of 11 found this review helpful
Having read loads of reviews about Panasonic cameras, I went for the plunge and for this flagship hybrid. Yes it has more features than I would ever use as happy snapper, but the quality of the build and pictures are 1st class. Like most I suppose, I did read lots of reviews on Sony, Canon, etc....but as I was advised, it's all down to the lens and not the amount of pixels. Leica and Carl Zeiss being the very best and with theses attatched to a camera, you really can't go wrong...:-)
great for pics and hi def video August 17, 2010 kdm 22 out of 23 found this review helpful
Brought this to avoid the need to take DLSR, lenses and camcorder on holiday. Most pics are similar quality to my Nikon DLSR and hi-def video quality is amazing as are some of the hi frame rate videos. Focus tracks properly throughout the zoom range and does this for video as well as pics. Optical stabilisation is generally very effective.
Only negatives so far are that the lense rattles slightly if you tilt the camera forward quickly and that Panasonic doesn't include a hdmi cable . Also its expensive compared to its rivals (though the video quality does partially justify this).
Overall - great piece of kit...
not one of panasonics best August 17, 2010 namron 5 out of 33 found this review helpful
Panasonic Lumix FZ100 14.1MP Digital Camera - Black (3.0 inch TFT LCD Display, LEICA DC Lens with 24x Optical Zoom and Full HD Movie)Not one of panasonics best.I dont like the method of getting the instrution manual.Or the lens does seem to have a halo on the edges of the images. As for the view finder, that is a joke.My old Nikon coolpix5400 which is only 5 megapixils gives better definition. If you want a good compact then purchase the Panasonic TZ7,Great little camera, and only half the price
